French real estate buyers, have you ever had the experience of a door handle not working in a property you are visiting? How about a door handle coming off in your hand?
These things have happened and sometimes can be a big problem.
We heard the story that one time a client who was pregnant asked to use the WC in a French villa. She was given consent but after a long period of time the husband wondered why she had not rejoined the visit. He went to look for her.
It turned out the lady was blocked in the WC. because the handle in the WC on the inside had came off and the lady was too embarrassed to shout for help. She was waiting for someone to find her.
Even thought the lady apparently ended up laughing about what had happened. She ended up wondering about the overall maintenance of the home and never did buy it.
Note: Check every door handle all around your home. Check all drawer and cupboard / closet handles as well. In addition, remember to check handles on machines.
