Place Beds in a safe place – away from blocking doors for exit, away from under lights and by windows or heavy mirrors to avoid them being hit by glass.

Attach tall furniture like bookshelves to the a wall in a secure manner using safety pins like these – make sure all breakable objects are removed to lower shelves.

Brace all heavy mirror sand pictures to walls

Install flexible connectors where gas lines are attached to appliance that may move during an earthquake

Make sure air conditioning units are property supported and braced

Six
Make sure all household cleaning chemical are separate and secure so that if they spill they will not mix with others causing an explosion

Ensure combustibles are separated from potential heat sources

Make sure no large or heavy object block the exit from your home

Brace the hot water tank to the nearest wall

Ten
Make sure all trees in your French property are pruned and keep away from hitting your house or apartment, in addition check the condition of roofing tiles.

Store your valuable original documents in a fire safe box like this and copy a second set and store in a separate location in a fire proof container. Keep a visual (photos) and detailed description of all your possessions in this fireproof box. Note for insurance purposes an renovations you have done on your French property and keep the receipts.
