We just read a review of a new book on French real estate that includes some humorous content as a comment on some French real estate advertisements and how they can be creative and make something not so nice appear desirable.

Translation “A few steps to the center of town” but this phrase really means “for regular athletes who expect to walk 10 to 15 minutes at high speed to get to the center of town”

À RAFRAÎCHIR
Translation ‘Needs to be Updated’ but really means “In the best situation you just need to paint, in the worst case you almost need to rebuild! ’

APPARTEMENT, MAISON ATYPIQUE
Translation “Not your typical house or apartment” which really means “the layout is hard to work with and if you buy this place it will be difficult to sell unless you redesign the whole place!”

AYANT CONSERVÉ TOUT SON CHARME D’ORIGINE
Translation : ‘Original Charm’ but really means “Old and without a doubt never renovated, definitely work needed most likely with the professional help of an architect’

Translation ‘Large Potential’ but it really means “Expect a lot of work and the aide of a architect to get the work figured out.”

Translation “Quality building” but really means “you are going to pay high monthly charges for the pay of a caretaker who is paid too much”

Translation “Very large potential” but really means “Enormous amount of work and a very definite need for expert help from an architect”

PROCHE/NON LOIN DU CENTRE-VILLE
Translation “Near the center of town” but really means “Reserved for athletes with the ability to walk up to 30 minutes at a good speed.”

Translation “Up and coming area” but really means “Someday it may be a better area! ”
