The French Village of Biot hosts this weekend the annual Festival of The Knights Templars which gives you the opportunity to explore the medieval arts.

You will see medieval camps, battles between knights, tournaments, horse shows, medieval dance, medieval music, artisans of yesterday.
The village of Biot in the south of France is minutes from the Mediterranean Sea. Biot is in fact an ancient city according to details on the city of Biot website. There are traces of occupation in the village since Prehistoric times. Then the Celto-Ligurian tribes inhabited the region. These tribes had battles with villagers of the town of Antipolis (Antibes still a well known village by the sea on the French Riviera).
The Ligurians were defeated in 154 BC by the Romans who then settled on the present site of the old village. They left monuments and inscriptions still visible today.
Historically, not much is known about the time between Roman domination and the start of the Medieval age except in 1209 The Earl of Provence donated the Biot territory to the Knights Templars to gain salvation for his family’s souls.
