What defects can help me save money on a French property?

If you are planning on buying a French property and you need to get the lowest price possible because of your budget you can often negotiate on the price if the property has certain less desirable features or defects ‘défauts’ as they are called in local language.

One
If the French apartment is on the ground or first floor it is less desirable and harder to sell so you may have a chance to reduce the price.

Two
If the French apartment is higher than the fourth floor and there is no elevator you are likely to be able to negotiate since it is not so desirable a property.

Three
If there is work needed you can also typically negotiate the price.
