What kind of kitchen is a cuisine americaine in a French property?

In a French real estate advertisement the term Cuisine Americaine generally means an open style kitchen where the kitchen is open to a living room or sitting room area. There are typically no walls separating the kitchen from the living area in the home or apartment.

Note: this type of kitchen is also said to be a Cuisine US in some advertisements.

This is in direct contrast to the term Cuisine Independent which is the traditional style kitchen in a separate room with doors to the eating or living area.
