2013 French New Housing Construction is Slowing Down

According to French government statistics, the number of new homes being constructed is down eleven percent this year compared to last year. In addition, the number of building permits given for future construction is also down, about 25 percent between June and August 2013 compared the same time last year.

French co-properties owners have an annual general meeting to discuss important matters relating to the maintenance and upkeep of the co-property. This annual meeting is called the Assemblee Generale.

During the meeting notes are made by an assigned person. These notes concern all the discussions and decisions that take place at this important event.

The written document that stats all the details of the event is called  Proces Verbal de l’Assemblee Generale.

Owners of French real estate properties that are co-properties have an annual meeting. This meeting is called an ‘Assemblee General’ in French.

Prior to the meeting each owner receives a document that notifies the owners of all the items that are to be discussed and decided on during the meeting. This document is called “convocation a l’ assemblee generale annuelle’.

Owners of French real estate properties that are co-properties typically have an annual meeting to discuss important issues that impact all the owners. This meeting is called l’assemblee generale. In English it may be called the annual general meeting.

Owners are recommended to be present since decisions that affect them financially are typically made at these meetings.

In most cases these meetings will be in French so if you don’t speak and understand clearly French bring a long a French speaking friend to help you understand what is being talked about.

What does the term pièce mean in a French real estate advertisement?

In French real estate advertisements the term pièce refers to a room in the property with some extra definition to be understood. So please read on.

The living room (salon or séjour) is classified as one pièce, so an one bedroom apartment that has a bedroom and a living room typically is called a 2 pièce in an advertisement.

A two bedroom apartment should be called a 3 pièce.

It sounds simple until you find out that a double sized living room in a two bedroom apartment may be advertised as a 4 pièce leading you to think that there are 3 bedrooms when in reality there are only 2.

You need to note the kitchen is not included as a pièce and that a 1 pièce is typically called a studio if the property is an apartment.
