New Solution to Repair French Real Estate Cracks in Walls

French village homes are some of the most beautiful homes in the world. Except when they suffer from extensive cracking that appears over time.

Dutch microbiologist and inventor Hendrik Marius Jonkers appears to have a solution that is supposed to come to market this year.

The solution is actually a solution of bacteria that is added to concrete that is used to build a home. Additional plans underway is a spray on treatment of the bacteria that can fill those nasty cracks appearing on your beautiful French home.

Sound strange? The bacteria actually exists naturally in rocks.

How it works

In general, the bacteria which is mixed into the concrete is activated from sleep in the presence of water that enters the cracks in the concrete. Then as the bacteria lives it secretes the same product that is used in concrete, thereby filling the cracks.

We received a like from a new French online magazine and as result we discovered Enrique, Daniel and Tamara who work behind the scenes at RealRiviera Life and Style magazine.

It was refreshing to hear back rapidly from Enrique, the executive editor, since so many online companies we have contacted rarely respond to an email inquiry at all when we just want to learn about their focus.

We had a nice chat for about 20 minutes.

One thing I could sense from the conversation I had with Enrique is that he is really passionate about his work. It comes from a passion for life on the French Riviera. I like that he, like all members of the team, are based on the French Riviera. In contrast, to a number of online magazines on France that have a main office outside of France.

Five French Real Estate Features You may Not like

French real estate offers the non-French buyer some surprises in terms of common features.

Here are five to be aware of so you are not too surprised.

One
No Sink
Although it is beginning to change the majority of French homes have the toilet separate from the bath or shower room. The toilet room also called the W.C. most likely does not have a sink to wash your hands!. If it does, in our experience, nine times out of ten the sink only has cold water.

Two
Laundry in the Kitchen
You may be used to having a separate clothes laundry room in your home outside of France, however, often in France you will find the clothes washing machine in the kitchen or perhaps in the bath or shower room. If you want to have your clothes washer in a separate laundry room you most likely will have to construct one yourself.

Three
Clothes Dryer
It is not so common in our experience of French real estate to find a clothes dryer in the home. This may be because of the hot weather but may be mostly because the cost of electricity is high and this makes drying clothes in a machine expensive.

Four
Cleaning Dishes
In the many older French homes we have not seen a dishwasher but we see this trend is changing as many a French property owner has less time to wash dishes due to increasing work (or perhaps social) demands.

Five
Wood not Gas
Perhaps in your home country you will find a gas fireplace in your home. In France you still find a lot of wood burning stoves that are typically fueled by wood pellets.
