What does Ascenseur mean in a French real estate ad?

The term Ascenseur is important to understand in a French property ad. It is the French word for ‘Lift’. This is a selling feature in many French apartments since not every apartment has one.

You will find old buildings with 4 or more floors to go up without lifts. This may be ideal for you if you are fit and enjoy going up but it is not a selling feature for many people. Apartments without lift access above the first floor are in general harder to sell and harder to rent out.

So look in the real estate ads for this important term. If it is not there make sure you ask when you phone before you book a visit.
