Did you know the French municipal / city hall can block you from your purchase?
By virtue of the municipal pre-emption right [droit de préemption urbain (DPU)] local French authorities have the right to buy real estate for sale by private individuals or companies, in preference to any other buyer.
Should the municipal / city hall desire to use this option, the local authority is authorized to replace the initial buyer.
